I am fascinated by the camera's potential to reveal both visible beauty, and something intangible beyond the visible: the mystery of the unseen world. I love the paradox that an instrument made for seeing can actually transmit so much more to a viewer than what he or she sees: the sense of time standing still, for instance, or the palpable sense of presence in absence. I think of my camera as a divining rod, searching for the source of this strange, magnetic energy. I believe everything around us, animate or inanimate, is imbued with a life force. I sense this energy when I go out into the world with my camera, and I try to gain access to that invisible place, even for the briefest moment.
